The project, with announcements in the Byzantine Interior, where the splendor of the Justinian court overflowed with sumptuous beauty, is elaborated in a very modern key, while drawing semantic inspiration from that brilliant historical era. Crowns, necklaces and bracelets, studded with gems, pearls and gold, were a symbol of temporal and spiritual authority in an empire considered invincible and immortal. The crown, in particular, held the most incisive stigma of the “divine” coronation and was an emblem of spiritual offering and consecration. The present project takes place on a corpus of crowns, in which the richness of the mosaic texture is combined with the severe copper structure, partially chipped to seal the transience imprinted by time and events on the evolution of history. The works recall, in particular, the sacredness of the crowns kept in the hands of the Virgins and Martyrs in the two wall theories of the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare Nuovo in Ravenna. The splendor and luxury of the Byzantine court was also expressed with the munificent beauty of the jewel, the wonder of which induced obedience to the command and honor to the imperial figure. Attestations of this are the wall processions of Justinian and Theodora in the Basilica of San Vitale in Ravenna, which display aesthetic refinement and regal magniloquence. In the present project, necklaces and bracelets follow a ductile and powerful geometric pattern, suited to an eloquent modern synthesis. On severe zinc-titanium surfaces, valuable mosaic tiles harmonize with heterogeneous elements, which give amazement to the works. These highly original creations go beyond temporal and spatial measures, to establish themselves in cultural and artistic universality.
